Anyone For Orange - A Day Of Discovery
Jun 09, 2021
It is incredible the variety of colors that flowers come in, from bright orange like California Poppies to the saturated Yellows of tulips like "Next Generation" through blues and reds and greens and everything in between.
The California poppy is one of the few native species that still flourish here in the state.
I came across these while searching for the world's largest outdoor monopoly board in Discovery Meadow Park in San Jose. We found it. It was not that impressive, and it needs some paint.
However, throughout the meadow, there are many sculptures and the giant mural of Sophie Cruz. You may remember a detail from the mural was one of my featured images. If not, go look it up in my New Images Gallery.
When was the last time you gave yourself the gift of a day of discovery?
Just going out somewhere totally new and seeing what you can find. It doesn't have to be spontaneous. You can pick someplace interesting, make a plan, and go there. And yes, do see the exciting thing. But open your eyes and your senses to what else there is to discover around there. Interesting things seldom happen in as much isolation as we think.
If I had not been on my way to see Old Faithful geyser, I would have never seen a badger or a moose. If I had not been trying to improve my photography skills, I would never have found the small local park that has become the focus of much of my work lately. If I had not asked with an open mind what people wanted to see, I would never have expanded into portraiture.
I watch a lot of photography training online. And more than one instructor has said something to the effect of plan ahead, get the shot you planned, then open yourself up to what else is around you. Because we all see the world a little differently.
So go out and discover your version of the world today.
I hope yours is as peaceful and beautiful a place as mine.
